Heart Hug = those unexpected moments when you feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of the life that God has designed for you; oftentimes coinciding with feelings of thankfulness to God for putting you in the right place at the right time.
Many of my ‘heart hugs’ happen when members of my family do something amazing, but today was different…
It was a rare occasion earlier when I happened to be in the car ALONE, rather than having an overflowing van chock-full of kids. In my haste to leave my home kid-free (me leave kid-free, not free the home of kids… NEVER that here!!) 🙂 I forgot the assignment I was supposed to bring an absent student from our homeschool co-op art class.
Returning home, I was blocks away when I saw a dog running down the sidewalk along the busy road, clearing scrounging, exploring, and not seeming to own a yard nearby. I stopped the car in a driveway, and the cute hairy (not mangy) dog apprehensively approached me. Taking a look at her IDENTIFICATION TAG (this is important later), I learned her name is “Katie” and that this mop of shaggy sweetness lives just around the corner. There was also a cell phone number on the tag, so luckily I was able to dial it on the cell phone I remembered to bring and got her owner who let me know in a relieved voice that she had been driving around searching for Katie for the past 15 minutes after discovering her missing upon returning from work.
God gave us pets, and we should take good care of our animals and definitely tag the ones we want returned to us should they happen to get away…
“God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”” Genesis 1:28
It’s made me happy for the rest of the day that Katie was reunited with her Mom after romping around in near-zero temps for hours. Between the weather, the traffic, and the dog warden, things could have been worse for Katie today. I have a lot of gratitude about this story’s happy ending, and I hope that many would do the same if they found our darling (and fast!) Gizmo a-runnin’ loose here one of these days…

I was very thankful for the really very extremely old half-slice of pizza I found in the car today. I used it to lure Katie to me and to get her reunited with her owner. This is something I should reference if I ever decide to stress about the fake importance of a clean car 😉
Luckily for everyone, because of the weather the pizza was frozen.
