George Kreger – 1 Corinthians 11:1
300 People who influence, inspire, challenge, encourage, & move me.
I decided to write about 300 people, other than Jesus, who impact my life.
– Chris Avell
God is Great! God knows my heart & thoughts! (Psalm 139:2)
Just thinking about George and how God has used him in my life makes me overjoyed with praise for Him (God). PRAISE GOD!
I cannot stress enough or use words strong enough to communicate how God has used George in my life… It makes my writing here feel almost futile. I really have “writers block” when it comes to writing here about George. I just don’t know where to begin (I’m trying to keep these posts a reasonable length) and there is nowhere to end as he continues to inspire, challenge, and change me (through Christ) to this very day. Sure, the same can be said about others I have written about here… But George… I guess only the Word of God can say it eloquently enough.
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience…
1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…
I sure was “testing” George when I was first becoming a believer and follower of Jesus Christ…
1 John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
…It was double-lives and hypocrisy that lead me to reject the notion of God in the first place. George’s transparency, wisdom, and commitment (2 Timothy 2:15) – he didn’t just preach the Gospel, he LIVED it (James 1:22) – were exactly what I needed to witness to allow Christ to begin transforming my hardened heart. PRAISE GOD! God lead me to the place and to the person who would help me see the light – and seeing it made me turn to God and give Him praise (Matthew 5:16).
Another area I really needed some guidance, spiritually, was in work. I was and am a very hard worker, but a very impatient one. Spoiled by years of “quick” successes on the internet and by demands of clients to “get rich quick” – I had become accustom to quick money. Easy come, easy go.
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
Witnessing how hard George worked and especially how patient and faithful he was in his work was a blessing and lesson to me beyond measure. George was the absolute opposite of everything I had been a part of or witnessed before in my work life. George stuck to his plan, his vision, when everyone else I knew in business, myself included, quickly abandoned theirs – sometimes just HOURS after it didn’t make the expected dollar amounts. Patient and diligent George simply continued to work hard and I witnessed him being able to bless more and more people through his hard work and perseverance. And, frankly, he was making money – patiently.
Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.
All my wealth did hastily dwindle – go figure, the Word of God is true!? We are now more poor (financially) than ever and, although it is a struggle, I have hope because in George I have witnessed what hard work and wise use of money bares (Proverbs 16:3). I have the hope that comes from God in Jesus Christ!
Again, I could go on and on. I have not even TOUCHED THE SURFACE of the ways God has used this unbelievably wise yet amazingly humble man in my life. But I can easily sum it up with the words of the Apostle Paul:
1 Corinthians 11:1
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Thank you for serving as a daily,
living example of Christ in my life;
giving me an example to follow.
