Well, that’s odd…

Bestest friends reunited!

Oddball night might need a more structured environment.  🙂

The concept was simple – give each adult guest a card with a silly-thing-to-do throughout the evening written on it.  Examples we had were:

  • Keep telling people to “Facebook it”
  • Keep taking food off of other people’s plates
  • Point constantly while you talk

The premise was fun (we think) but with people arriving at such different times we pretty much threw the whole thing out the window.  I think our friend Jamy was the only one who made it throughout the evening continuing his ‘quirk’.

Other than that it was a very subdued evening without the 4-brothers-crazy and T-Wat.  But, we did have  great conversation about God’s blessing of marriage and about ceremonial traditions vs. Biblical truths…  We looked into Genesis 2…

18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Yeah baby!  I just love the book of Genesis!

The following morning we did some praise and worship and looked into the story of Martha and Mary and how we often find ourselves too busy to spend time with Christ.  So, it was another great Disciple Day weekend – capped off with lots of Foosball thanks to Lynn Lemon who gave it to us freely… WOW, what a great guy (he does so much for us).

Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves.

Yep, that Bible verse in Romans describes Lynn (and a few other Christians I know).

Anyway, we had a great weekend and an “Oddball Dinner” might be something to give a try if you have a firm start time and the theatrical type in your church.
