Love In Any Language

On February 24, 2013 by Jamy Shaffer

Almost through February ALREADY!  Is there a more fitting way to post on the wonder and joy of love in any form than on the 45th Anniversary of your parents wedding day?! Well maybe there is but…  There is a myriad of beautiful verses spread throughout the Bible concerning the emotion.  This morning, one of them spoke directly to me as the choir sang a song derived from 1 John 4:7-12:

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

God sent his only Son to Earth to eventually die on the cross to conquer the sin which had plagued all mankind.  This morning during his sermon, Father Dave raised an important issue which must go through every person’s mind more times than we can fathom:  “What’s in it for me?” If we follow his commands and live as Jesus taught us, we are promised an eternity of peace and love with Him in heaven (John 3:36).

John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”  One of my favorite verses.  Following God’s will, Christ endured suffering and eventually death on the cross so that all who believe and follow Him would have life eternal.  Not just his closest friends but everyone.  How awe-inspiring is that?!
