Qualities of the Effective Christian
2 Peter 1:3-4 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
By Jesus’s divine power according to the promises that He made to us, who He has called to be His own, so that through these promises, we have crucified our flesh and raised to new life in the Spirit can escape from the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. This is crucial to understand because as christians we tend to forget that we are not only in dwelt by the Holy Spirit we have power in the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:5-9 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.
Here is a list of things we should be adding to our faith so to be effective and fruitful. If you have read the post ” What are you doing with it?” I had explained the parable of the minas Jesus told, then you should be able to understand that these qualities are things we should be doing to be effective witnesses for Christ and His Good News and also brings about fruit in our lives Galatians 5:22-23. If we do not possess these qualities means we walk around as if we are still unforgiven and powerless against sin. Like we are walking around in the light with are eyes closed, still stumbling around. Might be your condition if you find yourself struggling with a perpetual sin. Just saying that could be why but that is also why we should examine ourselves. 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?-unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
2 Peter 1:10-11 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
What it boils down to is if you want to know that you know that you know you have inherited eternal life then add these qualities to your life. As a bonus after this life then you will find the door to Heaven open wide to recieve you, along with the open arms of a Savior followed by the open arms of those you witnessed to that accepted Jesus as Savior and King.
At the end of the day what this verse is telling us is, that adding these qualities to your life puts you in to the best position to live out the great commission given to us by Jesus Himself. Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Remember YOU ARE LOVED!!!
