A Gaggle of Kids, A Pool, And Dunking
YAY!!!!!! I AM CAUGHT UP! Sunday (as opposed to our normal Saturday night gathering) was an exceptional, glorious, marvelous day! A few weeks ago, Chris was approached by a young man who asked to be baptized. Knowing our wonderful leader as I do, I am sure that he was filled with joy and excitement sent by the Spirit. He decided to turn this momentous event into a huge party and set the wheels in motion to reserve the local pool (which just happens to be in the neighborhood of the pavilion) for a few hours. Fortunately, one of the waning days of summer operation was available so we changed our schedule to have a Super Special Sunday Disciple Day!
As we were gathering to set up our feast of hot dogs for the myriad of revelers, Chris informed Keith and I of a life-altering event. Our friend John who had only weeks ago received a new heart suddenly and without warning passed away. John had been doing tremendously in his recovery. His Facebook posts were indeed inspirational and it seemed that he was well on his way to recovery. In the blink of an eye, this man who touched so many in his own special way (even if he is a Tiger’s fan) passed away. It has been a few years since I last saw two other special people who touched my life so profoundly. I will never forget this strong, courageous, talented, and wise man who loved his family (daughters, grandchildren, siblings) and friends well.
Ok…. this might have seemed to cast a shadow over the festivities but I think it added to the blessed event we were about to share in. After feasting on the food, we crossed the lawn to the pool complete with diving boards (no more high dive… DRAT!) and twisting water slide. Honestly, I believe that we set another record in attendance (EAT YOUR HEART OUT LASER TAG!). Kids and adults climbed the steps to the top of the slide. I lost count of the number of trips I took. I did get stuck once. I still believe that it was a result of the lifeguard switching since we had to wait 5 minutes to once again take the trip down. Promising his mother that I would keep an eye on him, I eventually convinced Ashton to slide down. And once he started, it was a treat to get him to stop.
I’m not entirely certain if it was purposely done or not BUT Your Friendly Neighborhood
Spider-Man Disciple Day Photographer’s camera ran out of battery life. Thankfully, we had another to take his place. It was simply awe inspiring to watch my friend and brother welcome 4 new followers of Christ into the fold. What a blessing to have Gage, a young teenager, approach Chris in his desire to follow Christ. A trio of family members also took the plunge. So blessed to have Christina, Kyle, and Terry profess their willingness to become disciples. Also once again, I was really moved as Chris immersed the quartet one by one into the pool of water. The love he is so willing to share of and through Christ is so AMAZING! I cannot express enough the joy I feel knowing that he and his family are a huge part of my own.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, not pain anymore, for the future things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) So long, my friend.
“Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.” (1 Peter 3:21-22)
WELCOME GAGE, CHRISTINA, KYLE, AND TERRY!!!
